OPPORTUNITY: RADIO BUENA VIDA ACCESS TO MUSIC MAKING WORKSHOPS

Radio Buena Vida is running a series of workshops this Summer, aimed at young people between 18 – 25 years old who have faced personal or financial barriers to accessing music-making and music education, focussing on DJing, mixing, music production, music curation and selection, radio broadcasting and radio presenting.

Applications will be considered up to the age of 30 years old for people with disabilities, young carers or care experienced people.

Funded by Youth Music Initiative’s Access to Making Music programme supported by Creative Scotland, the workshop will run between July and September this year.

Each workshop series will comprise of 5 x 3 hour sessions ending with the creation and broadcasting of a one-hour radio show on Radio Buena Vida that will be archived and available to listen back to on the station’s Soundcloud. Places are limited to 6 people on each workshop.

No previous experience in music making is required.

Workshop 1 with Hiba

Workshop 1 will be run by DJ, selector, radio host and RBV resident Hiba and will prioritise QTIPOC+ (Queer, Trans, Intersex and People of Colour) applicants.

Hiba’s workshops will run on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 18th July 6pm-9pm
  • Tuesday 25th July 6pm-9pm
  • Tuesday 1st August 6pm-9pm
  • Tuesday 15th August 6pm-9pm
  • Tuesday 29th August 6pm-9pm

Workshop 2 with Jonny Fernandez

Workshop 2 will be run by Jonny Fernandez (aka Wheelman) – DJ, producer, ‘Stereotone’ label owner, radio host and RBV resident, and will prioritise applicants who have found it difficult to access the music scene/music education due to their financial/socio-economic status.

Jonny’s workshops will run on the following dates: 

  • Thursday 17th July 6pm-9pm
  • Monday  7th August 6pm-9pm
  • Monday 28th August 6pm-9pm
  • Monday 11th September 6pm-9pm
  • Monday 25th September 6pm-9pm

Deadline: Midnight Sunday 9th July.

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, 14th July with the first workshop session starting on Monday 17th July and Tuesday 18th July.
