New COVID Test and Protect System Launched by NHS Scotland

Test and Protect is NHS Scotland’s new approach to controlling the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the community.

The system is designed to help prevent individuals from spreading the virus, and protect the country from a second peak.

If someone has been found to have been in contact with someone who has symptoms, they will be asked by the NHS to self-isolate too, even if they have no symptoms.

As soon as someone gets a positive test for Covid-19, the contact tracing system will be triggered. The patient will be put in touch with the local contact tracing team to talk through and identify close contacts.

Close contacts, as well as household contacts, will be asked to self-isolate for 14 days.

From today, if you have any of the symptoms of COVID-19 – a new continuous cough, temperature or loss or change of taste or smell – you should immediately visit NHS Inform or call 0800 028 2816 if you can’t get online.
