Thursday 5 September 2024 | 3:45 PM – 5:15 PM
This session focuses on creating inclusive and accessible spaces within Scotland’s music industry, examining both physical and conceptual approaches to ensuring equitable access for all. From live venues and festivals to studios, educational spaces and workplaces, we will discuss how these environments can evolve to better serve diverse communities.
Highlighting successful practices and case studies, we will discuss actionable strategies to enhance accessibility and inclusion. The session will also explore how supporting sectors like marketing can promote inclusive spaces and how innovative design can drive sector-wide improvement.
Key topics include the functionality of venues, integrating universal design principles and understanding the broader outcomes and benefits of access and representation. The session aims to provoke a rethink on embedding accessibility and inclusivity into core industry practices, ensuring that the music sector is equipped to meet the needs of all its members.
This panel will feature industry leaders at both organisational and grassroots levels who are actively challenging the status quo and driving progress. Their insights will inform a discussion on how the industry can collectively advance towards true inclusion.
Acknowledging the shared responsibility of inclusion and accessibility, we will emphasise the need for safeguarding our panellists and respecting their contributions, ensuring that finding solutions does not fall solely on those facing barriers.
