Thursday 5 September 2024 | 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM
Scotland’s music industry is dominant in the central belt, but vast opportunities await in rural areas. This session will explore the potential of decentralising the music sector and highlight the unique challenges that need to be addressed to unlock this potential.
We will delve into the strategic investments required to build sustainable music ecosystems in rural areas (both by the sector and by Government), while highlighting how community-led initiatives can overcome some of these obstacles.
The session will feature regional leaders driving industry development and highlight successful music activities outside the central belt. By understanding what works and exploring new opportunities, we aim to inspire more regional music activity and support those driving these changes.
We will focus on practical solutions to ensure that music opportunities are not confined by geography. Strengthening regional infrastructure and support is essential to prevent talent from migrating to urban areas or beyond Scotland. Investing in regional development can – and will – enhance the economic, social and cultural value of music across the country.
