The SAY Award 2021 Design Commission: Register your interest now

The SAY Award 2021 is looking for designers and artists living and working in Scotland who are developing innovative ideas and processes with a focus on sustainability to create bespoke awards for the albums recognised, highlighting the enduring links between music, art and design.

This year is the SAY Award’s tenth birthday, and the project will commission one designer/artist/maker/studio living and working in Scotland to create the bespoke prizes.

Underpinning The SAY Award 2021 Design Commission is the theme of sustainability. Supporting the mission of Charity Partner Music Declares Emergency, the award seeks to encourage the music industry to take positive and necessary action to reduce carbon emissions and protect our planet.

If you’d like to be considered for the commission, please register your interest with us and give us an idea of the types of projects or products you’re currently working on. We can offer a total fee of £3K for the design and manufacture (including materials) of the awards. Please see the below brief to find out more. We’re very excited about exploring the concept of what an “award” is, in the context of the climate emergency, and the importance of music to our cultural life.

The SAY Award 2021 Design Commission is curated by Local Heroes. Local Heroes curator Stacey Hunter will be joined by the SAY Award’s Hilary Goodfellow and designer Stefanie Cheong to select the individual or studio who is the perfect fit for this new, expanded brief.
