The Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) understands the challenges and opportunities that musicians and industry professionals encounter daily. Our monthly one-to-one sessions are designed to provide you with direct access to our team, ensuring that you’re equipped, informed and empowered at every step of your musical journey.
What You Can Expect from a Session
The SMIA aims to:
- Encourage Growth and Learning: By discussing your challenges, aspirations and plans, we can help outline steps for continued development in the industry.
- Address Individual Questions: Whether it’s a query about music licensing, seeking funding or navigating collaborations, our team is here to support you with specific signposting and resource sharing.
- Provide Tailored Guidance: Leverage our expansive network and collective expertise for insights and strategies that cater specifically to your needs.
- Connect You with Resources: We sign-post you to the most relevant tools, insights and connections available, including our comprehensive Resources Page.
Topics We’re Unable to Cover
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to provide advice and support on the below topics:
- Specific legal or regulatory queries relating to your work, your business or your personal life. We’d advise that you seek professional support and guidance for this. If you are a member of the Musicians’ Union they can sometimes provide legal counsel or guidance as to the best next steps.
- Mental health or wellbeing support: we understand that working in the music industry can be challenging and sometimes you need to reach out for support. We’d direct you to Music Minds Matter, on 0808 802 8008 which is run by Help Musicians, a UK based charity. To talk about anything that is upsetting you, you can contact Samaritans 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can call 116 123. More support can be found on our Health and Wellbeing support page.
- We cannot provide sessions for under 18s: please reach out to the Youth Music Initiative (Creative Scotland) to find out what support is available for under 18s.
Any resources/services that are presented by the SMIA are done so in the spirit of providing information and/or resource options to its members. The SMIA has no vested interest in, and does not endorse any resource or service It is the members responsibility to undertake due diligence to ensure that any of the resources/services signposted by the SMIA are fit for the members purpose. The SMIA does not accept any responsibility for any advice provided to or service undertaken by any member.
Book Your SMIA One-to-One Session
We offer one-to-one sessions remotely via Zoom. Book your slot for our next monthly session, ensuring you have dedicated time to discuss your needs.
You can attend this session alone, or we are happy to schedule sessions with yourself and a companion (support worker, carer etc).
Slots are available 30 days in advance, if you don’t see dates free then it means we’re fully booked. We’ll release any cancellations when we can.

We are aware that for some people web conferencing is inaccessible; due to caring commitments, other barriers being faced, the time slots available may be inaccessible, or that you may require additional support to access these sessions.
