SMIA panel to discuss value of music industry at Resonate 2020

Join the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) at Resonate 2020 for a panel discussing the value of music, and why at this fundamental time, we must work together to communicate that value and ensure it is protected.

On Thursday November 26, 2020 3:30PM – 4.30PM Robert Allan (Glasvegas), Caroline Parkinson (Edinburgh Futures Institute) and Nadine Walker (Tenement TV) will discuss the significant, on-going and multi-faceted challenges faced by the music industry as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

UK Music’s ‘Music By Numbers’ (2019) report highlights that music tourism generated £494 million for Scotland’s economy in 2018, with festivals including TRNSMT and Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival having attracted 1.1 million music tourists to Scotland.

But the value of music far extends its economic value, with music playing a key part in generating both social and cultural value also. Without urgent, targeted support for the sector, not only do we risk losing music’s economic value, but we also risk losing the unquantified social and cultural value that music brings to our society.

Resonate is a music industry conference focusing on industry training, business development, accessibility and collaboration. Founded in 2017, Resonate is an open platform for music practitioners in Scotland and beyond to come together, discuss challenges and opportunities and grow the industry for the benefit of all.
