Job opportunity: Youth Music Initiative Coordinator with Aberdeenshire Council

Live Life Aberdeenshire has an exciting opportunity to join its Cultural Services team to lead the coordination and development of our dynamic Youth Music Initiative programme.

Aberdeenshire Council are seeking an individual who is passionate about youth arts, creative learning and the nurture and wellbeing of children and young people.

The Youth Music Initiative (YMI) is a Scottish Government national music education programme with a vision to put music at the heart of children and young people’s lives and learning. You would become part of a national network of arts organisations, freelancers and local authorities who deliver YMI programmes with support from Creative Scotland.

Working with schools across Aberdeenshire, you would have responsibility for coordinating a significant budget for youth music activities, devising, developing and evaluating an innovative portfolio of creative projects that positively impact on the lives of children and young people. There will be opportunities to network with national and local arts organisations within the youth arts sector, Creative Scotland, as well as attend conferences and learning events.

You will also lead the development of a cohesive Youth Music Action Plan for Aberdeenshire considering opportunities within both formal and informal learning environments, and in liaison with the Cultural Development Coordinator and Cultural Engagement Manager, Instrumental Music Services, Creative Scotland, and other relevant agencies and organisations.

This post of 21.75 hours is the equivalent of 3 days a week. Salary is £22,357 – £23,333 per year for 21.75 hours a week. There is flexibility and a suitable working pattern will be agreed between the service and the successful applicant.

The YMI coordinator position is funded by Creative Scotland on a year-by-year basis subject to Scottish Government budget settlements for culture. YMI is a long-standing programme, having been funded by Scottish Government for nineteen years. The Draft Scottish Government budget for 2022/23 confirms continued funding for 2022/23 financial year.
