About the Workshop:
Join us for an interactive LGBT+ Awareness and Allyship workshop, delivered by Equality Network.
Designed for people working across Scotland’s music industry, this workshop explores LGBT+ terminology, identities and lived experiences, alongside practical approaches to creating more inclusive and supportive environments.
Through presentations, short films, group discussion and Q&A, participants will develop a greater understanding of LGBT+ communities, build confidence in supporting LGBT+ people, and explore practical approaches to creating more inclusive workplaces, projects and events.
Together, we’ll explore topics including:
- LGBT+ terminology and definitions
- Social attitudes towards LGBT+ people
- Experiences of discrimination and inequality
- Allyship and inclusive practice
- Practical actions that support LGBT+ equality across Scotland’s music industry
This workshop is designed to be interactive, with opportunities for discussion, reflection and questions throughout. There is no expectation to contribute, and participants are welcome to engage at a level that feels comfortable for them.
To help create a safe(r), supportive and judgement-free space for open conversation and learning, this workshop will not be recorded.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is for people working across Scotland’s music industry who want to develop a greater understanding of LGBT+ inclusion and become more confident allies.
It may be particularly relevant to:
- Freelancers and independent music practitioners
- Staff members and organisational leaders
- Promoters, venues, festivals and events teams
- Artist managers, labels and agencies
- People responsible for equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility or organisational culture
- Anyone who wants to build confidence in supporting LGBT+ colleagues, artists and communities
This workshop forms part of the Scottish Music EDIA Manifesto and Action Framework programme, supporting Scotland’s music industry to embed equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility into everyday practice.

About Equality Network
Equality Network is Scotland’s national organisation working for LGBT equality and human rights.
Through training, research, policy development and advocacy, Equality Network supports organisations and individuals to better understand LGBT+ experiences and create more inclusive environments.
This workshop will be delivered by an experienced Equality Network trainer.
Access and Participation
This workshop will take place online via Zoom.
Joining information will be sent to registered participants ahead of the workshop.
This workshop will not be recorded, helping to create a safe(r) environment where participants can engage openly in discussion.
Participants will not be required to use a camera or microphone. Opportunities to contribute verbally or via the Zoom chat will be available throughout the workshop.
