Leith Theatre is delighted to be presenting Live in Leith in association with STV Player. Live in Leith
was founded in March 2021 to serve as the cultural voice and platform of Edinburgh’s historic Leith
Theatre. It exists to celebrate the venue’s rich music heritage and to show case this world-class
music venue in waiting.
The first Live in Leith programme, supported by Creative Scotland, was conceived as a way to
connect with audiences, artists and the creative sector via an online streaming route while arts,
culture and entertainment were restricted by Covid-19. To embark on a relationship with STV Player
realises our ambition of creating TV-quality production. This is a huge achievement, and one they are
excited to share with music fans across the country.
Hosted by BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway, the episodes shine a light on the very best in
breakthrough Scottish acts. This is an opportunity to watch home grown talent at a time when TV
spotlights for Scottish music are limited. In parallel to the artists, Leith Theatre is a venue on the
cusp of transformative restoration as a live music and cultural performance space, providing an
essential mid-sized capacity premises for the Scottish arts and entertainment landscape.
The artists featured in Live in Leith have since enjoyed further development and growth in their
careers. Many are venturing on UK headline tours, European dates, festivals slots and played
support to artists such as Paolo Nutini, The Libertines and Wolf Alice. Among them is the youngest
act to ever sell-out Glasgow’s famous King Tuts, a Scottish Album of the Year award winner and one
whose debut album is held in The National Museum of Scotland for posterity. We invite viewers to
dive in and find their new favourite artists.
“It is a dream come true to be bringing our very first in-house production of Live in Leith to STV
Player. These recordings from our grand auditorium and intimate backstage spaces have allowed us
to shine a spotlight on this incredible venue. One of Leith Theatre’s key goals is to deliver the
refurbishment of this historic, 1930s art-deco building to serve as a premier music venue for local
and international artists. Live in Leith is such a powerful way for us to tell this important story and
take strides to achieving this vision.” Lynn Morrison – Chief Executive, Leith Theatre
“It is a joy to share these fantastic performances with national audiences at home through our
friends at STV Player. If Live in Leith is a pulse check on the health of breakthrough Scottish music
then we are in a really healthy place. We look forward to exploring more opportunities to celebrate
Scotland’s vibrant music sector in the wonderful setting of Leith Theatre.” Callum Jones –
Programme Curator & Coordinator, Leith Theatre
