JOB OPPORTUNITY: Director of Music at Heriot-Watt University

Heriot-Watt University is seeking to appoint a part-time Director of Music to commence in January 2023.    Based on our Edinburgh Campus, you will lead and deliver a wide range of musical activities for our students, staff and local community participants including choirs and an Orchestra. You will arrange concerts and support key University Events such as Graduation ceremonies, enriching the experience in line with our strategic goal to maintain a truly flourishing global community.

You will play a key role in the life of our University, taking overall responsibility for the leadership, direction, development and continued excellence of music at Heriot-Watt University. You will plan, implement, develop and enhance the performance of music to support our flourishing community of students, staff and alumni. Supporting the musical life of our students, providing inspiration and support for their musical development and practice, while building, developing and promoting a culture of music in a non-teaching university, you will build, develop and promote a national and international reputation for musical participation and performance at Heriot-Watt

You will be educated to degree level, or have equivalent practical experience, be experienced as a practical musician or teacher and in leading groups and promoting musical activities; with experience of working in a similar environment. With demonstrable substantial professional expertise in music administration and participation; you will also have a well-developed understanding of relevant legal, statutory and governance applications and turning them into good practice. The ability to engage, motivate and influence is also essential.
