Women in music invited to take part in POWA discrimination survey

Protection of Women in the Arts (POWA) have launched a survey to help better protect and support women in the music industry from experiencing sexual discrimination.

POWA are a Scottish-based collective raising awareness of sexual discrimination in the music industry through releasing music and creating a safe space on Patreon. The ultimate aim of the collective is to contribute towards ending practices of sexual exploitation and discrimination against women in the workplace.

The aims of POWA are:

  • to raise funds through Patreon which will provide session and commission fees for artists, providing them with opportunities to work on funded projects during the current pandemic
  • to raise awareness about discrimination through the work we create in collaboration with these artists
  • to host and support a non-violent, nurturing discussion space where it’s ok to agree and disagree with each other while we brainstorm the best ways to create change in our industries
  • to instigate change and ensure a safer return to the creative industries for womxn artists; to build back a better music scene

Women across the Scottish music scene are encouraged to lend their voice to the POWA survey.

Take the survey.

It is important that women completing the survey take care of themselves in the process. If you are triggered by the questions or process of the POWA survey you are encouraged to refer to the signposting list creating by Scottish Women in Music (SWIM).
