Assessing the Impact of the Coronavirus Crisis on the Scottish Music Industry

We talk regularly to politicians and civil servants in the Scottish Government and public agencies to explain the difficulties that the Scottish music industry is facing and represent the needs of our members. To help us understand the situation we conduct various forms of research including speaking directly to members, gathering case studies from selected businesses and running surveys.

Our first impact survey ran at the start of lockdown. Our analysis of the results gave us a picture of how the industry was affected initially. We used this when speaking to Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Fair Work and Culture, Fiona Hyslop, her advisors from the Creative Industries team at the Scottish Government, public agencies and other music industry organisations. We revised and relaunched the survey in late June.

This initial report was compiled in late July from data provided by music businesses and individual professionals from across the industry ecosystem. Data is aggregated and anonymised. The survey is still open and we are keen to hear from businesses and individuals throughout the industry. So, if you haven’t already, please do take the survey.
