The Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award, launched by the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) in 2012, is Scotland’s pre-eminent and most exciting arts prize. Respected by artists and valued by the industry, The SAY Award is responsible for a surge in musical discovery and an explosion of impassioned debate on social media year after year.
As part of the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival Fringe, the SMIA hosted a free entry event at Hard Rock Cafe Glasgow where a panel of previously nominated artists, previous SAY Award judges and notable music industry professionals discussed the value of a national music prize for musicians, music fans, the music industry and the economy.
Chaired by Vic Galloway, our panelists were:
-
- Ziggy Campbell (FOUND / Triassic Tusk)
-
- Caroline Sewell (Regional Organiser Scotland and Northern Ireland, Musicians’ Union)
-
- Yasmin Sulaiman (Editor, The List)
-
- David Pollock (Freelance Journalist)
