New Members Welcome

The SMIA welcomes new visitors to this website, including those who heard Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite (an SMIA board member) and Radio Scotland and Radio 1′s Vic Galloway talking to Janice Forsyth on BBC Radio Scotland’s Radio Café about the launch of the Scottish Music Industry Association.

On the show, Stuart proposed his idea for a new annual award to celebrate Scottish Album of the Year.

Membership is free until 1 September 2010 so please join and help shape the association.

    Excellent idea , loved the discussion on Janice’s show . l would definetly vote for a Scottish Album of the Year , having bought over 150 albums last year and many of them by Scottish artists , new and established .

    Thanks Graeme, good to hear some feedback! I think that there will be no shortage of candidates for Scottish album of the year.

    We’re not even a month and a half into 2010 and I can already think of a few likely candidates. This is indeed a great idea and should get everyone thinking about who deserves that award, from all styles of music.
